Computer Science 040 is an introductory course designed to equip students with essential computer skills for academic, professional, and personal use. The course covers setting up and managing email accounts (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo), developing fundamental typing skills through practice websites, effectively using search engines, understanding different types of disks (C, D, E, F, G disks, and U disks), and creating and organizing files on the computer. Emphasis is placed on practical applications, digital literacy, and the importance of technology in modern life, providing students with the foundational knowledge and skills needed to navigate and utilize computer systems confidently.
Computer Studies 12 builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in Computer Studies 11 exploring the more advanced features of PowerPoint, Excel, Access and a review of the Windows 10 operating system. Students gain further proficiency in the customization of a PowerPoint presentation and presentation techniques. In Excel students are taught advanced functions, spreadsheet design, adding visual elements, working with multiple worksheets, using tables, and other file formats. Access explores the relational database management system, the creation of databases, creating tables and relationships, and the creation of Forms, Queries, and Reports from scratch or by using the Access Wizards. A final project consists of an Indigenous celebrity profile PowerPoint presentation highlighting the life, achievements and contribution of an Indigenous celebrity to the betterment of First Peoples in society.
CST 11 provides an introduction to the 2016 Office Suite including the Operating System Windows 10, PowerPoint, Word, Excel.
