This course will be an in depth study of child development from pre-birth through age 12 years. Physical, cognitive, socio-emotional and spiritual child development will be reviewed, and theoretical perspectives will be discussed. There is a focus on integrating Indigenous perspectives on child development and the role of the counsellor. Influences upon the developing child will be studied and students will be able to establish guidelines for the role of the counsellor during these periods for helping families. This course will enable students to comprehend the physical, psychosocial and cognitive development of infants from birth to 12 years of age.
