COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course will focus on oral and written correspondence for the workplace, through the examination of the language and tone of effective communication.  Learners will create letters, memos and e-mail that uses professional vocabulary and clear, unified and coherent paragraphs, free from errors in spelling, grammar and style.  Students will compare the techniques for writing favorable, disappointing, and persuasive letters and will write letters of request, acknowledgement, response, thank you, complaint, refusal and collection. They will practice website evaluation and summarization techniques and Internet research.  Employment preparation related topics include self-awareness, goal-setting, career/job research skills, work environments and cultures, stress management, resume development and production, cover letters, and the interview process.
