This is an introductory course focusing on holistic healing practices and spiritual traditions. The students will have the opportunity to explore a number of cultural practices that have been used by Indigenous peoples since time immemorial to maintain good health and to promote holistic healing. Various Indigenous beliefs and philosophies around relationships to the land, the earth’s healing energy, and the interconnectedness of all life will be explored. Colonization and its effects will be reviewed. Students will have the opportunity to explore their own cultural traditions on their personal healing paths and will be encouraged to define their own philosophies around healing and working with others in a helping profession. The importance of self-care techniques and avoiding burnout will also be an integral part of the course.
